Prosecco Road Walks

November
January
March

A chance to take a stunning walk through the wonderful countryside of the King Valley, finishing at one of the oldest and well known wineries: Dal Zotto. The Dal Zotto family is a King Valley institution and were the first in Australia to produce Prosecco. Depending on the date there is either an al fresco lunch prepared by Hedonistic Hiking or lunch in Dal Zotto’s very own Trattoria. All dates will have a private visit to the winery and an opportunity to meet the wine maker.

Hike Dates

10th November 2012
Lunch at Dal Zotto Trattoria

3rd March 2013
Long Lunch at Dal Zotto’s Winery prepared by Otto Dal Zotto & Jackie Parsons

Itinerary

The day starts at the Dal Zotto winery at 10am.

There is a short transfer to the beginning of walk (15 mins) and then we follow a gravel road through native forest. Moving onto smaller tracks we pass evidence of former mining activity before coming out to open countryside. After a short climb we descend into the vineyards of the Dal Zotto estate where we meet a member of their family to talk about the Italian origins of Prosecco and explain how they grow it today in the King Valley. The full walk is 6.8 km.

Lunch is in the winery and depending on the date this will either be in Dal Zotto’s own trattoria or it will be one of Hedonistic Hiking’s famous picnics. Over lunch there is a chance to taste Prosecco and other wines from the Dal Zotto vineyards.

At around 3pm we transfer to the cellar door where the day ends.

Primavera del Prosecco

Wrap Up 2012

Spring in the King Valley, for the most, is a pretty peaceful time. But this all changed on the 3rd weekend in November for our annual Primavera del Prosecco Festival. A Prosecco party like no other!  The region went into overdrive like Melbourne on Cup weekend and much like the races (minus the horses) bubbles were the order of the day! With condition’s that can only be described as ‘Prosecco Perfect’. DZ HQ welcomed day-trippers, locals and interstate visitors as well as friends and family for a weekend of festivities that will surely be remembered (by most anyway). This years Prosecco Party had it all. Even a pirate or two!!

The weekend kicked off on the Friday night, with our annual Tutti a Tavola dinner. Dean and the team from Oscar W’s came in to take on Michelle and Anthony from Dal Zotto’s Trattoria in a ‘Murray vs. Mountain’ old school cook-off. The dish of the night is still to be officially decided, but we’re a bit one-eyed so we’d have to say the Londrigan Blonde Eye Fillet was the standout (locally bred by the Andrews family in Tarrawingee and available to purchase at The Everyday Gourmet in Wangaratta – Phone 03 5721 3444. Or go to www.oldkentuckyblondes.com.au.

Wine of the night – when ever we do a wine dinner anywhere it is always interesting to see what wine will be the crowd favourite. Hoping that it’s a wine we heaps of! (Just kidding).

Usually getting a room full of diners to agree on one wine is not an easy task.

And in the past the cause of much debate or passionate debate. But not this year. This year the wine of the night was the Nebbiolo 2009. Which in recent weeks has collected some amazing results (see news section) and according to our wine maker – Michael will just keep getting better with age. And as with all wines that win these impressive awards stock is very limited so be quick!

Many thanks to Dean and his team for all the help they gave us in preparing for the dinner (and for injecting the kitchen with his cheeky antics). Make sure if you’re ever in Echuca, stop by Oscar W’s, or the soon-to-be-opened American Hotel (which we tip is going to be one of the hottest hotels in Victoria next year) for a quality bite to eat and a drink.

Musos Cam “The Voice” Tapp & Brad “Rumbles” Rumbelow got the crowd up on its feet and dancing away the day as they sipped away on Prosecco Mojito’s and grazed their way though a delicious menu selection. Thanks Cam & Brad!

As the sun started to set behind the King Valley hills, the stage was set for Prosecco Nights 2012 with our favourite DJ – DJ EM! And as usual he did not disappoint! Playing a unique mix of current tracks & old school classics that DJ EM simply calls his ‘Prosecco Nights Cocktail’. There was not a person in the crowd who wasn’t rocking out to his set. Thanks again DJ EM.

But once again the hottest ticket item on the menu and one of the highlights for many a pork fan was our now famous ‘Tuscan Pork Roll’. And Manning the spit for his 3rd consecutive year was Otto. It’s hard to say what Otto loves more about doing this. The cooking, the drinking or the photos taken by adoring pork fans. Perhaps it’s all 3! Either way the Old guy seems to have perfected his technique.

We’d like to send out a huge thank you to all visitors and staff who made this festival one of the best to date.

If you were too busy drinking Prosecco and enjoying the sun like many of us and you did not get a chance to purchase any of the CD’s on sale and you would like to. Email us here at the winery on info@dalzotto.com.au on the weekend For more information please check out Cam Tapps website – www.camtapp.com for more info on upcoming gigs. In particular his XMAS Show at The Toff in Melbourne December 16th. Tickets on sale now
